Don't use too much shiny-leather-like fabrics in cosplay. As said by professional cosplayer Jan Kurotaki, shiny never works. It can only really work okay in shoes and metallics. It's hard to work with, it's hot, it gives off WAY too much glare (remember, characters are animated) and it's slippery. Unless the cosplay part is metallic, which is rarely allowed at conventions. If you want to go metallic, use leather or pleather, because glare looks good in metallic stuff, usually. You can borrow my Cosplay book if you want. It's written by a professional cosplayer model, and it's mostly pictures and it gives a TON of tips for all types of cosplay. Also, wigs are very important. Wigs can either make or break a cosplay. If you buy a wig, take good care of it, because it's very delicate. If it's tangled, wash it GENTLY with hot water and conditioner in the sink or in a large bowl. I don't completley agree with SoulessDream, because if you have the hair on you already, take advantage of it instead of spending a ton of money on a wig. On to the details, always get to the very last detail in cosplay. In cosplay, it's not the general costume, it's the small details that really make it great. On to looking the most like the character, cosplay is really just about having fun, It's not about race or anything like that. I don't suggest color contacts because those destroy and eat at your cornea if bought from the wrong person. If you want to get them, do prescription with your optometrist or consult your eye doctor about it. If you want to use make-up, it looks pretty good in cosplay. It can give an illusion of larger eyes, and as you know, anime eyes are massive. There are several anime eye tutorials on youtube, my favorite is by Michelle Phan - [link] I'm sorry I've said so much about this that I've gone into a paragraph. ^ ^" If you have any specific questions about it, just ask me! ^w^
